The Review of Flash Movie 2023

I love the Flash movie so much.

Despite of all the cartoonish CGI and crazy storyline full of plot holes, I actually enjoyed the 2023 The Flash movie on the big screen. I’d even say this is one of my favorite Batman movie.

Michael Keaton’s Batman is cool

The Flash 2023 includes a very good Batman storyline, and Micheal Keaton delivers a fantastic portrayal of the character. To be honest, Michael Keaton’s original Batman was a bit before my time, so it was a pleasant surprise for me to see how cool he really is. He’s charming, fast, strong, as well as wise. The movie shows us his emotional struggle, amazing action sequences, his giving up, and glorious return, a relatively complete arc. I’m sure it’dl be much better if you add nostalgia into the mix.

The Batmans are pretty cool…the rest of the move…I’m not so sure.

Ezra Miller plays an OK Flash…but young Flash? I’m not sure

If you’ve seen the trailer, you know that there are two Flashes. Other than the hair, I don’t think the makeup team did anything else to differentiate the two. It is kinda of uncanny to see Ezra as an 18-year-old when he is not talking. And you can see how hard he tries to separate the two performances, but I’m still not comfortable when they are in the same scene.

Oh, the CGI.. are they even trying?

Some of the CGIs are so bad, that they are simply creepy! CGI babies? Seriously? In some scenes, I think the CGI team just gave up. They should’ve made them more obvious that they are fake.

Too many cameos!

You probably already know this at this point. They even included Nicolas Cage’s superman! Love it or hate it, it’s up to you.

And of course, plot holes, plot holes, plot holes!

This is literally a line from the movie:

One Barry: How do you explain that paradox?

Other Barry: (says nothing)

Me: You can’t!

This movie basically plagiarizes Marvel’s way of utilizing the mutilverse concept, with only slight differences. It copies from Spider-Man: No Way Home where they bring multiple Spiderman together, and What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands? story line where one Doctor Strange fights his fate. I think the movie plays on the fact that the audience are familiar with concept instead of explaining some of details. It actually offers more questions than solutions.

The story makes General Zod and Supergirl quite irrelevant to the movie, and leaves us with a quite unsatisfying ending.

This may be intentional, however, because it leaves room for DC to interpret some of the details however they want in subsequent movies. This movie may be a necessary evil for DC to let go of their previous messes and missteps and start anew for their future movies. It somewhat explains their constant casting changes in the past, and opens doors for them to do whatever they want in the future.

Besides, I love the flash new costume there.
